Strategic Management

Strategic management is a 3 credit hour course that consists of the analysis, decisions, and actions that organizations take to create sustainable competitive advantages. The course examines a variety of issues including environmental, competitor, and stakeholder analysis; strategy formulation; and strategy implementation and control. The roles of ethics, corporate governance, and global issues are addressed.

Course Objectives:

  • Communicate a firm’s strategic vision by creating a clear and comprehensive mission statement.

  • Complete an analysis of the external environment of a firm.

  • Determine the resources and capabilities of a firm.

  • Integrate skills acquired in finance, accounting, marketing, and MIS courses to create a successful generic strategy.

  • Identify the strategic fit of the firm in its industry.

  • Explain the importance of culture and leadership on strategic implementation.

  • Determine ethical strategic alternatives.
